The internationally sought-after saxophonist and ECHO award winner Asya Fateyeva will be our guest at the 3rd Philharmonic Concert. The German-Ukrainian artist released another highlight of her exciting discography in 2024 with the album "Dancing Queen - Rameau meets Abba", which was acclaimed by the specialist press.

And Asya Fateyeva, the Philharmonic Orchestra of the City of Ulm and GMD Felix Bender will also land a particularly exciting coup: The program includes the saxophone concerto by Gabriel Prokofiev (*1975) as a German premiere! In his composition, Sergei Prokofiev's grandson succeeds in making the various 'personalities' of the saxophone sound versatile, humorous and impressive. Prokofiev's musical language is of translucent transparency and moving sensitivity.

This exceptional work of the 21st century is framed by two 'classics'. In his symphonic poem "Death and Transfiguration", Richard Strauss (1893-1949) created a moving tone painting depicting the journey of the human soul to heavenly realms with one of the most enchanting melodies of his entire oeuvre.

Mozart knew nothing of his journey to Prague at the time of composing his 38th symphony at the end of 1786. The symphonic work, which was only later given the addition "Prague", not only shared its genesis with the opera "Le nozze di Figaro"; after an acclaimed performance of "Figaro" in Prague, the symphony was premiered the very next day. And just as in the opera, the "Prague" symphony features Mozart's typical subtle juxtaposition of different moods.

In this season's Philharmonic Concerts, we would like to invite you to join us on a musical journey.

Fortunately, after traveling to other countries and cultures, we can all return to a warm, dry and safe home. However, many people do not have this opportunity. We would therefore like to accompany our concerts with a charity campaign to support those who have no home and are forced to live on the streets.

The donations collected will be donated to the Ulm district association of the German Red Cross, which provides various local support services for homeless people, such as the overnight shelter, the Ulm food bank, the reception center for women and the cold bus.
