Kleist's world - outrageous events
Wednesday, February 11, 2026, 7 p.m., Aegis Café
Heinrich von Kleist never shied away from exploring the abysmal nature of human feelings and actions - no wonder his works caused offense, including "Die Marquise von O." In 1808, the novella was considered scandalous when it was first published. Critics warned "Frauenzimmer" in particular against this work, as it could not be read "without blushing".
The "outrageous incident" during the war that Kleist describes is unfortunately still a bitter reality 200 years later, and the question he poses is frighteningly timeless: How does a woman deal with rape? How does her environment? Wort-reich combines this literary masterpiece with anecdotes by the ingenious storyteller, on the occasion of the current Kleist production "The Schroffenstein Family" at the theater.
Together with Dr. Christian Katzschmann, members of the Ulm Theatre ensemble will read.
