The "Unterwegs" season concludes with a particularly exciting juxtaposition: George Gershwin's F major Piano Concerto and the orchestral version of Wagner's tetralogy "Der Ring der Nibelungen", "The Ring without Words", conceived by Lohrin Maazel.

Forest weaving, the Ride of the Valkyries, Wotan's rage and farewell, Siegfried's funeral march and Thunder's crash of destruction, Siegmund's brooding brooding and Brünnhilde's soulful resolution, the Rhinemaidens' reasoning and Hagen's furious revenge - all the locations and orchestral highlights are touched on in a taut 70 minutes and can shine in wordless splendor.

The garlands of the brilliant George Gershwin (1898-1037) glitter in front of it. The music of this piano magician is often underestimated. Yet Gershwin managed like no other to combine cheerful swing, lively jazz and tenderly sad blues in a masterfully woven and colorfully orchestrated symphonic movement. The "Concerto in F" for piano and orchestra, premiered 100 years ago in New York's Carnegie Hall, boasts a multitude of concise and typical Gershwin characteristics: rousing melodies, sparkling humor, virtuoso piano brilliance, moments full of longing and infectious vitality.

It is a particular stroke of luck that the young American pianist Clayton Stephenson has been recruited for this concert. The young artist reached the final of the renowned Van Cliburn Piano Competition in 2022 with Gershwin's "Concerto in F" and will be performing this work in Ulm for his first appearance in Germany.

In this season's Philharmonic Concerts, we would like to invite you to join us on our musical journey.

Fortunately, after traveling to other countries and cultures, we can all return to a warm, dry and safe home. However, many people do not have this opportunity. We would therefore like to accompany our concerts with a charity campaign to support those who have no home and are forced to live on the streets.

The donations collected will be donated to the Ulm District Association of the German Red Cross, which provides various local support services for homeless people, such as the overnight shelter, the Ulm food bank, the reception center for women and the cold bus.
