Let's hear it for the boy
Organiser ROXY gGmbH:
Inspired by Bob Dylan's moment of hesitation during the recording of "We Are the World", LET'S HEAR IT FOR THE BOY by Emi Miyoshi & SHIBUI Kollektiv opens up a space for male vulnerability. At a time when gender boundaries are becoming increasingly fluid while traditional role models are regaining influence, the Freiburg-based choreographer - the only woman in the artistic team - deliberately approaches the subject from the outside. Curious and empathetic, she does not interpret, but penetrates: raw, direct and unfiltered.
The focus is on the moment of transition: from breath to voice, from tension to expression, from boy to man. That fragile moment in which the invisible becomes visible - and vulnerability becomes audible. The Japanese term "nodo botoke" - literally "larynx buddha" - makes the Adam's apple a poetic symbol of maturation and hidden fragility: exactly where the voice emerges - and can falter.
Together with renowned theater director Tom Schneider (FARN Kollektiv), who composed the music for the piece, and dramaturge Edan Gorlicki (INTER-ACTIONS), Miyoshi creates an intimate, immersive setting: two dancers and the audience share a space in which inner experience, external forms of expression and social constructs converge - and vulnerability becomes tangible as a unifying force of transformation.
A poetic evening about courage and masculinity: raw, direct and tender at the same time.
The performance will be followed by a discussion with the artists. In German.
