"In the beautiful month of May / Richard Wagner crawled out of the egg; / I wish him, who mostly love him, / he would have stayed in better." - With these lines, the composer congratulated himself on his birthday, at least with a touch of irony. Self-doubt was otherwise not his cup of tea, he was the greatest, the most important, the only one according to his own standards and feelings. Wagner: an antisocial character and at the same time a subtle composer, to whom a satirical portrait, framed by some of his musical creations, does justice at best.
