A poetry slam is the poetry competition of our time and turns poetry into an experience. At the same time, it’s also a platform for everyone—you just have to have the courage to participate. The audience is right in the thick of it rather than just watching from the sidelines, and their applause determines the outcome of the competition. Props such as instruments or costumes are prohibited. Shouting, whispering, howling, gasping, whistling, rapping—all of that is allowed, however, when competing against one another. The weapons: poetry, voice, and body.
