Jazzchor Freiburg Meets Joo Kraus “Infusion”
From airy lows to dazzling highs, a melody like a ray of light! Jazzchor Freiburg turns music into a natural phenomenon. Founded in 1990 by Bertrand Gröger, this top-tier ensemble sings what no one else sings. For decades, the Freiburg Jazz Choir has stood for outstanding quality and innovation. Major awards such as first prize at the 2002 Choir Olympics in Korea and CD releases like “Schwing!” or “Live in Japan” brought the choir—which has collaborated with greats such as Bobby McFerrin and the Swingle Singers, among others—national and international recognition early on.

With its new program “Infusion,” the Freiburg Jazz Choir ventures into uncharted territory. Instrumental pieces from the fusion era by Pat Metheny, Joe Zawinul, Herbie Hancock, Esbjörn Svensson, and Chick Corea have been tailor-made for this versatile ensemble, complete with lyrics and complex, sensual arrangements. The album and current tour feature trumpeter Joo Kraus as a charismatic frontman. With the group “Tab Two,” founded in 1987, the Ulm-based trumpeter brought jazz to the dance floor and into the international charts. The most successful duo in German jazz (electric bass: Hellmut Hattler) blended soul, funk, and hip-hop into an exciting cocktail. For Joo Kraus, the Freiburg Jazz Choir is an equally adventurous partner. The experienced backing band—featuring piano, bass, and drums—provides the necessary flow.
