A wide variety of solo concertos are on the program for tonight’s performance at this year’s Wiblinger Bachtage: Haydn wrote most of his few solo concertos for outstanding soloists; the Cello Concerto was composed for his friend Weigl, a cellist at the court of Prince Esterházy. Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf, the composer of the piano concerto, played in a string quartet with Haydn, Mozart, and Vanhal. Mozart’s Symphony in A major is preceded by the “Exultate Jubilate” for solo soprano and orchestra.
