The Mass in B minor is the Catholic Mass composed by the great Protestant musician Johann Sebastian Bach. With some interruptions, Bach spent half his life working on and with this Mass; although it was composed during the Baroque era, its fascinating variety of styles and techniques continues to point toward the future. Peppered with moments of both virtuosity and deep emotion, the work culminates in a rousing “Dona nobis pacem”—a plea that is all too relevant today.
